Hello, my name is John. Welcome to the Caze Daze art website. In these pages,
you will find many years worth of my artwork and cartoons. The site itself is
maintained by my brother Patrick.
You may be asking, "What is this all about?" "Who is that weird
stick figure?" "Where do you get your ideas?" and "Are you
a professional cartoonist?" The answers to these questions begin with a
bit of my own background. I've alway liked drawing. When I was a kid I watched
cartoons on TV and read newspaper comics. I started by drawing the characters
I saw in them. My dad was an illustrator for McDonnell Douglas for 30 years
and he encouraged my drawing talent. I drew pictures and cartoons for my own
amusement and for others.
"Cays Daze" began with sibing rivalry. My little sister Cay (yes she
does exist) and I would get into 'drawing wars'. We would make insulting cartoons
about each other. The ones she made of me usually had something to do with my
love of drinking Dr Pepper. I made Cay this bizarre little stick figure with
a look of permanent bewilderment on her face. With her whacked out hair and
a question mark on her dress, her cartoons usually involved her doing something
very stupid or running from some danger. As time went on, Cay and my family
wanted me to make more of these as they found them very funny.
Soon, I was making cartoons for everyone in my family. I use cards I buy at
Hallmark or American Greetings stores and draw cartoons in the blank, white
space on the inside of them. I take something that had happened to the person
it was for and make a cartoon out of it, usually with a strange twist. I make
them for holidays, birthdays, and other special occassions. I mainly use colored
pencils and black ink pens in my work.
I am not a professional cartoonist and am not part of any studio or company
(although I would love to be). If anyone would like to contact me, my web address
is johnmauricehanna@hotmail.com.
